Every year, I start out with great intentions. I get my planner ready, make goals and set some plans...and life happens. Someone is sick, I'm needed for something I didn't plan, the weather is bad, you know how it is. Well, during the pandemic I decided I really wanted to learn Spanish. I've never learned a foreign language other than a few words here and there when traveling and I thought this was the perfect time to learn. I stuck with it for a while and even had a 70 day streak. Yay me! Guess what, the kids went back to school, our schedule changed and I stopped learning. Last November, I decided I wanted to give it a try again. 148 days later and I haven't missed a day. Even better, I know some Spanish. Looking back, I don't have any super words of wisdom to get it done except that I made it a priority and would do it first thing of a morning. Whether is was after a cooldown from exercising or waiting for breakfast to cook, I could always manage a few minutes. As I moved up in rankings, the more committed I became because I didn't want to lose my progress.
All of this made me think about other ways I want to improve which led to today. Today is Day 1 of waking up earlier than my family because I want to, not because I have to. Let me tell you it was no easy task. I set my alarm and when it went of I REALLY wanted to hit snooze, but I got up, put on my workout clothes, grabbed a water and went to the basement to workout. Those 5 minutes set my day up. One, I woke up earlier. Two, I exercised before I could prioritize something above it. I drank my first 16 oz of water and started the day strong. It is now not even lunch time and I have so many other tasks accomplished already that normally I'd barely be beginning. Three, I have a much happier frame of mind. Might all be coincidence, but I'll take it and see if it continues throughout the week.
So, if there is something you're wanting to get done or be better at, Go For It, my friend. I believe in you. Share with me what you're doing and I'll be sure and help cheer you along! I'm considering trying something new each week, but let's be real and see how this week goes first!
And grab a good accountability partner...mine is the best...even if she's only in it for the treats after!
